Ramadhan as a Platform of Change

by Syafiq Azhari

This is my first post of Ramadhan after one week. A bit busy with other more important tasks, now I’m back. Fasting is considered as one of the main principles that make up the Pillar of Islam. Having failed to obey the commandment without reasons will put your ‘akidah’ in danger. Ramadhan or publicly acknowledged as fasting month for all Muslims has now entered its fourth day. Ramadhan brings joy and happiness for all Muslims.

Personally speaking, during this month, ‘istiqamah’ in your every practice is vital. If you are reciting the Quran, then make sure it is done regularly. For example, some people are targeting for about a juzuk or half of it every day, so, ‘istiqamah’ in doing that. Or you may opt to make some donations to the mosques or the needy. There are thousands of examples of practices that can increase your ‘iman’ and ‘taqwa’. However, don’t you ever go for quantity, instead, go for quality. The sincerity in your every practice is the measure of its quality.

But don’t try to practice so many things at once, slowly one by one. Otherwise, you might not be able to stand and stop before long. This is a common mistake did by many people. Sometimes, we feel like we are going to change, and the feeling came abruptly. Without proper preparations, we would go for everything, but after some time, you might feel like they add burdens onto your back. And that happens because of no other reasons except that our soul is not yet ready for ‘those’ things. I’m writing to remind myself and other people, improve your ‘iman’ slowly but steadily, as I said, ‘istiqamah’. Leave your past time behind, and turn over a new leaf. Don’t repeat your fault and move forward.

Why do we have to wait? While this is the right time to change. People can change and so do us. And in order to fully change ourselves, we need the support from the people, friends, family and other close individuals around us. So, support your family, support your friends and support the people who are going to make a change in them, let’s support each other. Gud luck!!
