Magical Steps of Improving Yourself

by Syafiq Azhari

And there are 3 simple things to develop your sense of SELF-IMPROVING...

1..2..3..Here we go...

Become highly teachable

As we all know, people have pride, isn't? And it is, in fact, a very serious enemy in improving yourself. So how to overcome this problem? OK..for a month or so, try to put yourself in learning roles. Ask questions anytime when you don't understand. Listen to other people, even if they are younger than you.

To become a great learner is not to value something based on the person, instead, look at what he/she is going to say, got it? We have to adopt the attitude of a learner, not an expert.

Plan your progress

There are two levels in planning your progress. First, determine the area where you want and you need to improve. Why I said 'want' first? Because if you don't want something, it won't happen, right?

Plan what books you are going to read, talks that you are going to attend or any useful medium that would help. This is vital as we need to have a smooth flow of progressing forward.

When you list things down, it provides you with clear objectives and steps that you'll be facing. For this one, I suggest you to have a proper planner or notebook because it will be firmly kept.

Value self-improvement above everything

Make your next move based on how it will improve you personally rather than looking at the rewards. For example, some people tend to do something as a part of process in chasing the glamour or popularity. Don't do that.

Your self-development will come to a halt or you will stuck in the middle because your priority is not to improve yourself anymore, instead, it is popularity or glamour.

True!
Regarding the 1st tip, well, good listeners know that the message is ten times as important as the clothing in which it comes dressed.
So, stop finding fault with the way a speaker delivers his speech..Instead, listen out to the message.Correct Syafiq?

Hope this boost me up in clarifying what I want the most in my life.

After all, there are lots of thing that we want to change in our life or maybe with ourselves.

so much wants until sometimes we forgot that there are thing that we want but its not needed.

if there so much wants, until we confuse which should come first, and make a progress, what will you suggest?

sometimes there are so much thing listed and confused which should be choose.

have you ever experienced it? when the time we feel so inspired until we feel overhelmed over something..

just pondering.
maybe i'm thinking too much..

to farihin: yup...you got it right..the most important thing is to look at what we got and learn as much as we can..life is a learning process and listen is one of its mediums...10 marks to farihin!...haha ^_^

to everjihad: That is why we have to make a clear list. How to set it up? Just list down of what you want in life.

Then, divide them into two parts : "short-term" and "long-term". Or you may also want to consider the third one that is "intermediate".

Sort things out and only then you could delicately plan your next steps. At the beginning, prioritize of what you really need.

However, it doesn't mean that you should discard the things you want. They might spark your motivation to work harder to get things done.

Regarding this quote, "we feel so inspired until we feel overhelmed over something". This happens because you didn't focus on one particular things at a time.

You may be too excited or feel that you can achieve many things and start doing them all at once.

Don't do that, you might get tired when too many things are in your mind and and find them too difficult to accomplish.

The point is do ONE BY ONE. When you get the first thing done, your willingness and confidence will increase and that will surely motivate you to do the next and so on. ^_^

true..main point is FOCUS!
I remember one quoted 'only one that FOCUS can reach the impossible'. How far can be use, i'm not sure. anyway, I really need to work on that as I easily distract with 'outsider' thoughts and stuffs!

by the way, let me try 'islamilize' the term so that we can feel it much closer to our soul as we are muslims.

anyway, focus can also be known as khusyuk..

remember, in surah- almu'minun(believer)

in the very first ayat :
qod aflahal mu'minun..

meaning:
1. Successful indeed are the believers.

2. Those who offer their Solatt (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness.[a.k.a.= FOCUS!]

3. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allah has forbidden).

your first point that i would like to add some more are:

* based on hadith nabawi, mentioned that

khoyrukum man ta'aallamal quraana wa'allamahu..(HR.Bukhari)

which means

the best among you is one that LEARN Quran and teach it.

the point is, either we teach or we learn, we are among the best people that mentioned by Rasulullah. PBUH. It is a deed that really being encouraged.

Subhanallah. Sweet, isn't it?

another thing, there is a quote in arabic which i'm not sure whether it is an idiom or other thing which are the same value like your point.

unzur ma qola wa man qola

which means

see what being said,
not who said so.

then, about progress plan.

i would say, in our religion, there is a term called mutaba'ah amal? have you ever heard it?

it listed target for every amalan that we want to do and achieved like solat awal waktu,solat2 sunat, solat jemaah, puasa sunat, then we make it like a table and we ticked daily. see the progress. when is our iman is up and down. - can make it like a graph so that it is visualised and that we can improve and work more on it..

it is just the same thing like you explained. it just that i added some islamic value so that we can remind ourselve that not only this world we live on but it is important to also remember ukhrawi things.

then, about 'how it will improve you personally' this can turns to 'muhasabah'or 'self-examination'. isn't it usually we always be remind to make checklist of ourselves.

such things like in hadis, remember 5 things before 5 things?

which are,

"Take benefit of five before five:

your youth before your old age,
your health before your sickness,
your wealth before your poverty,
your free-time before your preoccupation, and
your life before your death."

[al-Haakim, al-Bayhaqee, Saheeh]

and last but not least, if it is hard to make a muhasabah, always remember death.

Intelligent students always prepare for exams. It is also a matter of intelligence to prepare for the account to be given after death.

Rasulullah PBUH has mentioned in a Hadith,

"Clever is the one who prepares for life after death."

and He also said, "Take importance of life before death."

may we are not 'solute' with worldy things

just a piece of 'tazkirah'..

err..maaflah. 'terceramah' plak kat sini. as mentioned in al-asr

1. By Al-'Asr (the time).

2. Verily! Man is in loss,

3. Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and

recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar)which Allah has forbidden),

and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion)

cukup la dulu tu kot. takut jemu nanti pulak.

kalu ade mane2 yg tersalah ke, bleh la betulkan same2..as human, can't run from making mistakes.

wallahu'alam. Allah that All Knowing.
